James 4:5 “Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? 6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.”
If you have trusted in the finished work of Christ for your salvation, then your body is now the “…temple of the Holy Spirit.” (I Corinthians 6:19) Now that you have been justified by faith and have peace with God, you now belong to God. Paul said in I Corinthians 6:20, “…for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” Your life and your body and your time now belong to God, not you. You are no longer the captain of the ship because God by His Spirit is now leading you for His glory, not your own.
As a result, it should not surprise you to read in James 4:5 that God, “…yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us.” God’s Spirit indwells you and desires total occupation. He didn’t redeem you through the blood of Christ in order to govern some of you, but instead He wants all of you. Because you are now His child, He will do whatever is necessary to bring that reality to fruition.
His dominance in the life of a believer is evident when His fruit is being made manifest in their lives. What is the fruit of a life that is dominated by God? Galatians 5:22 says, “…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
What type of fruit is being displayed in your life? Is your life dominated by quarreling and fighting and coveting and lusting and murder; or are you dominated by the love of Christ that has been poured into the heart of every believer?
If you are a child of God, He will have no rival in your heart. Why? Because as James 4:5 says, “…He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”
Is there cause in your life for God to be Jealous? says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? 6 But he gives more grace.
