Brad Bird

Brad Bird is the President of Marketlife Ministry and the lead teacher of Columbia Crossroads Church Downtown in Columbia, South Carolina. Brad has a passion to see people confronted with the truth of the Gospel and equipped to walk in obedience to the Scriptures. Brad is seeking to accomplish this calling through Marketlife by taking the Gospel into the marketplace, much like the Apostles in the book of Acts. Brad travels weekly in both North and South Carolina teaching in different venues with the purpose of “….reviving the saints through the power of the Word.”(Psalm 119:25). Brad lives in Columbia, SC with his wife, Melissa, and their four daughters, Caroline, Karis, Elizabeth, and Anna-Bradley.

Paul goes to great lengths in this short book to prove that salvation is by grace through faith, not as a result of works. He wrote this book in response to inaccurate teaching on the gospel that had infiltrated the churches at Galatia. In order to combat the false doctrine in the Church, Paul had to first expose it and correct it with the truth.

Now that you have read the entire book of Galatians and gotten a broad view of the book, it is time to begin to step in and look at the details. Remember, the purpose in scripture study is to get to know God and His redemptive plan in Christ, and the desired outcome is transformation. Paul’s words are “… inspired by God” and necessary for your spiritual growth. Pray that God would use them to deepen you in your faith in order that you might be better equipped to follow Him with all of you heart and mind and strength and soul.

Week 1: James 1:1-11

James ends this section of the letter with an illustration of two types of trials in the form of wealth and poverty. It would be easy for the poor man to fixate on dissatisfaction with his situation, and, he could think that life was going to get better if he only had what he didn’t have. And he doesn’t realize that he’s been made rich in Jesus Christ and that there’s nothing greater that God could give that what He’s already given. But wisdom does what? It leads him, instead of being dissatisfied, to glory in his situation, realizing that he may be poor in the sight of this world, but he is rich in Jesus Christ.

Week 2: James 1:12-18

When you encounter trials don’t think that it’s a stingy God, who doesn’t have your best interests in mind, who is behind that trial. God’s purposes are always good. James says, “Every good gift in this life comes from above, it comes from God.” Every single good that we experience comes from Him, and that controls how we look at our trials and our sufferings. When God calls us to be perfected through suffering in trials, my friends, He is only calling us to go the way of His only begotten Son.
